Meet Judge Toni L. Young

Toni L. Young is the daughter of William E. Young and Dr. Stella A. Young – two Wisconsin trailblazers in their own right. After completing her undergraduate degree in English from Grambling University and her Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley School of Law, Toni returned to Racine on a mission to help those in the Badger State. She became a member of the Wisconsin Bar in 2009 and has been a member in good standing since.

Toni started her own law firm, Balancing The Scales of Justice, representing honest, hard-working Wisconsonites who were down on their luck to the point of bankruptcy. As a bankruptcy attorney, she worked to keep people in their homes while keeping their dignity – despite their financial setbacks. For her work, she was recognized with a Leaders in the Law award in 2020.

Later with righteous temperament and fair dealing, she became a Racine County Guardian Ad Litem. Her work as a Guardian Ad Litem led her to represent vulnerable children caught in challenging and often abusive situations. These children needed someone to speak on their behalf, and Toni rose to the occasion. It was this work that accentuated the reason she pursued her law degree in the first place – to help people.

Toni has also worked as a Public Defender in the Wisconsin State Public Defender’s Office in Kenosha. As a Public Defender, her professional goal was to assure that indigent people accused of crimes would receive “zealous representation.”

Judge Young believes that our justice system works best when there is care and commitment on every side of the courtroom – from the State to the defense to the bench.
